Minister Ambrose Focuses on Improving Procurement to Benefit Canadian EconomyVANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 26, 2012) - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, today met with industry stakeholders from British Columbia. The roundtable was an opportunity to discuss how to effectively engage small and medium enterprises (SME) and how to improve and leverage procurement to benefit Canadian industry and the Canadian economy.
"Our Government is committed to improving procurement, in consultation with Canadian industries, so that we can maximize job creation, support Canadian innovation and bolster economic growth across the country," said Minister Ambrose.
The Government of Canada supports the innovators that will drive the growth and job creation of the future. Recognizing the importance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to the Canadian economy and the opportunity that federal procurement provides to stimulate the growth of Canadian small businesses, Minister Ambrose engaged stakeholders on improving procurement within the federal government.
Minister Ambrose is responsible for the office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME) which focuses on reducing procurement barriers; simplifying the contracting process; providing advice to small and medium enterprises wishing to do business with the government; collaborating with SMEs to improve procurement policies and best practices; and working with SMEs to ensure their concerns are brought forward and heard.
The Government of Canada is taking action to create jobs, encourage economic growth and position Canada for a secure and prosperous future.
