APQ: The Owners Only Ask to Maintain Their Property Well but It Is Necessary to Give Them the Means to Do So

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 21, 2012) - Following the submission of new regulations to legislate on buildings of 5 floors and more, the Association of Quebec Landlords (APQ) makes it a point of putting this project in its context:

"The owners only ask to maintain their buildings well but one must give them the tools necessary to do so in the current market!" says Martin Messier, president of the APQ.

Each owner wishes to maintain his buildings in order to preserve his investment and also good tenants but with a return of investment of more than 30 years it is impossible to do major works.

"In addition to making the buildings safe, the owners could improve the Quebec economy while investing in new technologies, the green programs, and become an example. Still, it is necessary to give us the means to do so, " adds Mr. Messier.

The APQ highlights the problem of the criteria for the setting of the rent since many years: "It is time to re-examine this obsolete method adopted more than 30 years ago. "

The Association of Quebec Landlords wishes that the Government assists the owners of rental residences with financial incentives for renovation and a recasting of the regulations on the criteria of setting the rent.

"It falls within the competence of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry responsible for Housing to offer an adequate and fair solution to the owners who have been waiting a long time for assistance in order to help them maintain their premises safe and a roof for more than 1.300.000 tenants," concludes the APQ.
