Bids in for St. Catharines, Ontario arena construction
The City of St. Catharines, Ontario has announced it has received three bids to design and build a multi-purpose spectator facility downtown.
"Determining the best proposal in this circumstance will include a detailed evaluation of each bid and interviews with each proponent," the city stated in a press release. “The review is expected take approximately three weeks, following which the committee will prepare a report for council recommending the successful proponent. Council is expected to formally accept the successful proposal at its Oct. 29, 2012 meeting, with the report scheduled for public release on Oct. 19, 2012 as part of the General Committee agenda."
The facility is intended to host different entertainment events and as an arena for the Niagara Ice Dogs Junior A hockey team.
Last July, the city invited three design-build teams to submit proposals. They are:
• Ball Construction Inc. of Kitchener and Rankin Construction Inc. of St. Catharines;
• Giffels Westpro Corp. of Toronto and NORR; and
• PCL Constructors Canada Inc.
The total budget for the facility is $50 million and the site is at 55 McGuire Street, known as the lower level parking lot.
