VIDEO: VRCA seminar on recruiting foreign workers
On July 17, 2012, the Vancouver Regional Construction Association held a seminar to update members on foreign worker recruitment.
With a looming labour shortage and an increase in large-scale projects across the country, BC employers are looking at many nontraditional avenues for a replacement workforce once the baby boomer generation starts to retire.
VRCA President Keith Sashaw hosted a panel featuring Abigail Fulton of the British Columbia Construction Association, Rowan O’ Grady of Hays Recruiting and Michael Chew, the head of the BC Provincial Nominee Program.
All of the panelists brought different perspectives to the event, and attendees were able to hear first person experiences of bringing workers into Canada, the factors that can determine whether a foreign worker will make a suitable employee, and the large number of Irish skilled trade workers who want to emigrate to Canada for work.
