VIDEO: Seniors population in Canada set to increase, as mini baby boom starts
The proportion of Canadians aged 65 and older will increase in the years ahead, but the proportion of children aged four and under has increased.
Alex Carrick, Chief Economist of CanaData, discusses the 2011 census data, recently released by Statistics Canada. He also discusses data from the StatsCan report Generations in Canada.
Carrick notes that in four cities, nearly one in five citizens are seniors. They are Peterborough, Ontario (19.5%); Trois-Rivieres, Quebec (19.4%); Kelowna, British Columbia (19.2%); and Victoria (18.4%).
