VIDEO: CanaData economist Carrick analyzes U.S. housing statistics
U.S. housing starts exceeded more than 700,000 on an annual basis in May, and building permit totals were also up, says Alex Carrick, chief economist of CanaData .
Carrick discusses the latest statistics from agencies including the United States Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Carrick notes that the unsold inventory has dropped from its high in January, 2009 while by one measure, the S&P/Case-Shiller 10-city and 20-city indices, home prices rose.
