Diamond + Schmitt partner with Oz Architecture on re-design of Denver’s Boettcher Concert Hall

TORONTO

The firm of Diamond + Schmitt Architects has been chosen to re-design the Boettcher Concert Hall in Denver. It is partnering on the project with Colorado-based firm Oz Architecture.

Home to the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the hall, which was built in 1978, suffers from severe acoustical and accessibility issues as well as major deterioration and a lack of support space.

Diamond + Schmitt said the hall will be “completely re-thought and reconfigured to create an optimal performance space with great acoustics, improved architectural presence and greater engagement with the site and surrounding city.”

The redesigned facility will include a state-of-the-art concert hall and dedicated spaces for public gatherings, educational offerings, artist dressing rooms, a music library and rehearsal and office space.

The design team includes Toronto-based electrical and mechanical engineering consultants Crossey Engineering Ltd.

Construction is expected to begin in 2010.

The joint venture team was chosen from a field of six finalists. Design concepts were presented at the end of June.
