Boralex acquires Gengrowth wind-power project in southwestern Ontario

MONTREAL

Boralex Inc., a Montreal-based electricity producer, says it has acquired the rights for a wind project with a potential installed capacity of 100 megawatts of power in Ontario.

The wind power project is in Chatham-Kent in southwestern Ontario. It was developed by electricity developer Gengrowth and will be part of the Ontario Power Authority’s request for proposals for new wind power output for the provincial grid.

“This strategic acquisition allows Boralex to reinforce its presence in Canada, principally in a region favourable to the production of renewable energy, and in a sector where its expertise is recognized.” said Patrick Lemaire, president and CEO of the Montreal company.

In 2007, Boralex acquired from Gengrowth the rights for nine wind farms in southwestern Ontario, which have signed electricity sales contracts with the Ontario Power Authority.

Construction of three of the nine farms should start in the fall after obtaining municipal permits.
