Hydro-Quebec accepts 15 bids for wind-power projects

Utility’s plan includes $1.1 billion for transmission infrastructure

MONTREAL

Hydro-Quebec has announced that it has accepted 15 bids for a total of 2,004 megawatts of wind power projects to be up and running in stages between 2011 and 2015.

The projects will require capital outlays estimated at $5.5 billion, including $1.1 billion for transmission infrastructure. The 15 wind farms will be constructed by eight different groups, both provincial and international.

All the winning bids meet the following criteria:

•At least 60 per cent of the total cost of each wind farm must be incurred in Québec

• At least 30 per cent of the cost of the wind turbines must be incurred in Matane and Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
