Workplace Safety and Insurance Board amnesty draws 1,100 new companies

Collingwood

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board’s [WSIB] recently offered amnesty to employers not registered with the board was a success, reports the board’s chairman.

Approximately 1,100 new companies voluntarily registered with the WSIB during its recent voluntary registration amnesty in which no retroactive premiums, penalties or prosecution were pursued. Steve Mahoney, chairman of the WSIB, provided the update at the recent Ontario General Contractors Association symposium.

The WSIB launched the voluntary registration policy in November 2007 to reach out to the thousands of businesses not registered with WSIB. More than 16,000 non-registered employers were identified by the board in 2005 and 2006.
