Lafarge’s cost-cutting measures boost profit
PARIS
French construction materials group Lafarge SA says that, following an aggressive cost-cutting program, its fourth-quarter profits at the end of last year were up 36 per cent from the same period in 2006.
The cement, plaster and concrete company said its net profit for October to December 2007 rose to 375 million euros ($547 million), from 276 million euros a year earlier.
Revenue edged up three per cent to 4.35 billion euros ($6.34 billion).
Lafarge said it expects earnings growth this year despite weakness in the United States and Spain — two of its main markets.
