Federal government wants to better control 17 new toxins

MILTON, ONT.

Manufacturers, importers and other industries are on notice about 17 more toxic substances the federal government wants to better control.

Ottawa has identified 200 substances it wants under strict controls, and businesses must report their usage. The government will use that data to determine how to control the substances.

While new chemicals produced or imported into Canada must go through a testing process, there are tens of thousands of “legacy’’ chemicals that still have not been assessed for safety.
